This is a muscle growth series focusing on characters from the entire universe of Sonic the Hedgehog, including the less known ones.  BackyardGameboy wanted Ixis Naugus next, as well as his echidna, whose form is the main focus here.

Description:
The army of New Mobotropolis, mostly consisting of hulking citizens under Nicole the Holo-Lynx and the Cyan stone, was still taking over the continent of Northamer, settlement after settlement, corrupting everyone in their way. Well, almost everyone, as some were lucky enough to escape either to seek refuge in a well-defended city or to find and alert any soldier nearby. Sonic the Hedgehog and Sally Acorn were still around the said continent trying to rally up the resistance and stalling the invading forces, Mammoth Mogul's Casino was eventually overrun despite its defensive efforts but the mammoth was nowhere to seen, and Shard the Metal Sonic (being in severely critical state) had barely brought Harvey Who out of New Mobotropolis into the Feral Forest before having succumbed to his injuries, allowing the owl to gather forces as many as he could. To make matters worse, the Northamer Egg Army led by the Pronghorn sisters, originally supposed to check on their fellow Egg Boss in Downunda, took advantage of this situation by persuading citizens in despair to join their side, though the sisters were potentially reasonable enough to form a truce with Sonic and Sally in times like this.

All of these events frustrated Nicole, to the point of lashing out at her servant Ixis Naugus, a troll spared from the cyan stone and forced to serve the holographic-in-the-flesh lynx. But it wasn't just Nicole he had to fear, Naugus had to endure a lot of abuse coming from any hulking warrior who went in his way, albeit out of malicious fun on the latter's part. On one night however, a musclebound duck guard borrowed Naugus' staff from Rosemary Prower, so he could further his fun in non-physically torturing the troll wizard, but then came his biggest mistake that the troll himself could exploit. It was already clear to Naugus that he could not fight back against anyone of the kind like the duck guard, but when the said guard met Naugus alone in the now-empty glass prison in New Mobotropolis, he let himself into the troll's cell in hopes of fighting him with no way to escape. Realizing the environment and the duck guard's arrogant approach, Naugus let out a smirk (which confused the guard) and telekinetically grabbed his staff away (much to the guard's shock). After calling the duck guard out for his dumb attempt and maniacally laughing, Ixis Naugus used his staff to teleport himself away from the city.

Unfortunately for him, his staff had malfunctioned and he had somehow found himself on icy islands, but he didn't fret. He believed he could take a week to recover his magic, let alone endure isolation on the Artic waters. A day later, the troll was using magic to fix his staff, when he took notice of a convoy of watercraft, manned by Northern Ocean refugees, passing by him. Realizing what they were up to and not wanting to be sold out to his enemies (like Sonic or even corrupted Nicole), Naugus transformed himself into his more mobian form, Nixus the Echidna, in hopes of joining the refugees.

Among the said refugees, Pearly the Manta Ray caught an eye on the echidna stranded on ice and had him in, much to Nixus' genuine relief. While Naugus was used to longtime insanity due to his banishment into the Special Zone, he had a bigger fear that bothered him, the musclebound Mobians corrupted by the glowing stone, possibly around the Arctic region. And that fear came true, when Nixus' ride was hijacked by the corrupted Sealia Seal and Flip Penguin. While the rest of the convoy had barely managed to leave the region, the only boat fallen to the corrupted Freedom Fighters was the one ridden by Nixus, Pearly, Princess Undina, and the two dolphin brothers.

While Nicole and her subjects were infuriated with the duck guard's reckless act that allowed Ixis Naugus to escape, they decided not to waste their time going on manhunt for him, given how much they treated him. This meant Naugus would never pose a threat to them, even if he somehow managed to recover himself. While the corrupted Arctic Freedom Fighters were confused about Naugus' involvement with the Northern Ocean refugees' evacuation, his echidna form had at least paid off. Well, too much.

While Pearly, Undina and the dolphin brothers became evil hulking warriors, Naugus' disguise magic got affected by the red glowing stone so severely that it somehow stripped away his original troll form, and instead left him stuck as a literal Mobian echidna, genuinely much to the troll's horror. Such horror wouldn't last a little longer, as corruption had created him a new personality and a couple of memories of him as someone else, as one without any knowledge of even the darkest kind of magic. As Nixus had embraced his new muscular form, the Freedom Fighters took a look at the former troll's broken staff but still failed to tell who Nixus was, given that they themselves never knew him, but out of precaution replaced the Chaos Emerald with the red glowing stone for the staff. While it served no change in the stone's powers, it became easier for any warrior to hold it in an imposing manner. With nothing else to do in the icy waters, they opted to go after the remaining convoy, with the emerald in their hold.
